| About the author | |
S. Ponnuswamy S Ponnuswamy received his BE in Civil Engineering from Madras University, his MS in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Ph D in Civil Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. Dr. Ponnuswamy is currently a Consultant in Civil Engineering and Transportation. He has retired as Additional General Manager of Southern Railway after serving in different capacities with the Indian Railways for 34 years. He was also with Public Works and Irrigation Departments for 3 years and subsequently, been a Guest Faculty in the Civil Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Technology Madras. His service period includes seven years on the Nigerian Railways and three years with RITES consultancy organization. During his service he was associated with various construction, maintenance and investigation projects for road and rail including bridges. In the last 20 years, since retirement from Railways, he has worked on a number of consultancy assignments on major bridge, railway and road projects as well as urban Transport Planning and System studies individually or as a leading member of RITES or SOWiL Consultants. He has also given a number of guest lectures on special aspects of bridge engineering in some leading Engineering Colleges in the south. He is Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, London and American Society of Civil Engineers. He has done the documentation for three bridges built by Railways on River Brahmputra for the General Manager (Construction), Northeast Frontier Railway. He is also the author of a number of technical papers published in various journals. | |
